Joss Stone joins NSPCC campaign

May 31st, 2009

SINGING sensation Joss Stone is urging people to get their walking boots on to help vulnerable children.

The 25-mile Hike Against Cruelty to Kids is taking place in September in Devon.

Joss, who owns a house in Culmstock, Devon, has joined the NSPCC’s Child’s Voice Appeal alongside chairman, Somerset businesswoman and TV ‘dragon’ Deborah Meaden.

All money raised will go towards expanding ChildLine South West, one of the UK’s smallest ChildLine bases, located in Exeter.

The 25-mile challenge walk on Sunday September 27 begins and ends at Bicton College near Budleigh Salterton in East Devon.

Joss said: “I hope this hike raises a huge amount of awareness for the NSPCC.

“Twenty-five miles is a long way but it’s nice to know people are willing to do so much and work so hard to help the NSPCC’s work with vulnerable children and young people.”

Last year a third of calls from distressed children in the South-West went unanswered.

The Child’s Voice Appeal aims to expand the service to text and online services, as well as training more councillors to answer calls, which cost just £4 each.

Reviewer says good things about Joss Stone’s acting on The Tudors

May 24th, 2009

The reviewer Tommy Garrett from canyon-news.com site analysed Joss Stone acting. Take a look below:

“Then there’s the primetime star that showed the greatest range of emotions this week. On Sunday’s episode of “The Tudors” we met for the first time the fourth wife of Henry the VIII, Anne of Cleves (Germany). Actress Joss Stone had big shoes to fill. Henry’s previous three wives were played by brilliant actresses and she had to come in and not upstage them, not be as beautiful or as worldly but also strong.

Stone’s portrayal was heart wrenching when she had to be violated by the King and treated like she was just a token or trinket of His Majesty’s. However, when it was time for Anne to stand up to Lord Cromwell, she did so with strength and yet holding her grace, she never lost her composure. These were very difficult scenes obviously for anyone to have to play. But Joss Stone did so with such ability. I was left gasping with awe of the grasp the actress had over her character.

The British born star even handled the German accent with great style.”

Joss Stone defends the Planet

May 20th, 2009

This Planet is a Precious Gift

I have lived in the countryside in Devon for the last 12 years, since I was 10 years old. Within the last couple of years I have experienced the consequences of climate change. At the end of our garden is a river, and we have always been able to cross it by a ford at any time of the year. But now it is flooding. It is impossible to cross it at certain times of the year, and it sometimes floods parts of our garden. This has never happened before.

We almost never have snow here in Devon. And if we do, it is only for a short spell of time, and it melts away and gets brown and dirty as soon as it hits the ground. But this year we have had a lot of snow. We got so much that I built a full-sized snow-woman that remained standing for a couple of days before it melted away. This I have never experienced before in my life. Of course it was some kind of fun when it happened. But it was also very scary.

The natural cycle of the animals is also affected. I have seen it with the sheep. Normally they have their lambs at the end of March, but now they have them shortly after new year, which is more than two months premature.

Climate change affects everything, but we can all do something to stop it happening. We must do something, even if it is just a little thing. We can turn out the light when dont need it or we can plant a tree in our garden or in the local park.

FOR OUR CHILDREN’S SAKE

Of course, I am responsible for quite some carbon emissions when I travel round to do my gigs, but one of my projects is to get people to plant trees in connection with all my concerts. In this way, I am trying to do my part to reduce CO2 emissions.

We all live on this precious planet, and we have to respect its beauty and look after it. It is a gift.

We all have to do something, as private individuals, as companies and as governments. Not using the knowledge that already exists about how we can limit climate change and diminish the consequences of it is a sign of disrespect both to ourselves and to our fellow human beings.

We must do something for the sake of the coming generations, for the children of the future, for their children and for their childrens children.

Interview to People magazine

May 16th, 2009

Joss Stone is trading in her soulful singing voice for a German accent.

Starting Sunday, the British musician plays Anne of Cleves the fourth wife of England’s King Henry VIII in the season’s last two episodes of The Tudors.

“I enjoyed wearing the dresses,” Stone tells PEOPLE of her 16th-century wardrobe. “But the thing about Anne of Cleves is, she was not supposed to be attractive. Anne, let’s be honest, was described as quite frumpy and ugly. But hey, I did it! I did my best! They had no problem making me ugly. Lots of makeup!”

Modesty aside, Stone, 22, still turns heads in the Showtime drama, which she filmed in Ireland last year.

“It was cold, so in our off time we went to a lot of comedy clubs. The Irish are funny f—ers they make me laugh,” says Stone, who adds that she was “looked after” by her dashing castmates including Henry Cavill (who plays Charles Brandon), Andrew McNair (Thomas Seymour), James Frain (Thomas Cromwell), and the king himself, series star Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

“Johnny was lovely,” says Stone, who appears in the May 17 and 24 episodes. “A great guy, very cool. He’s a beautiful spirit and a beautiful man.”

Next up for the soul singer: a summer tour and, she hopes, more acting roles, including a return to The Tudors for the period drama’s fourth season. “The sky’s the limit,” she says. “I dont really know what I’m good at yet in this field. But there’s nothing that I won’t do or try.”

Stars join Princes for green video

May 6th, 2009

Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Robin Williams and Joss Stone are set to appear in an environmental film with Princes William and Harry.

The stars will also be joined by the Dalai Lama, Pele and the Prince of Wales in the 90-second clip to boost awareness of the Prince’s Rainforest Project.

They all appear with a digitally-created frog in the film which will be broadcast on several websites, including MySpace, on Tuesday night.

The animated amphibian, which prompts raised eyebrows from William and Harry when it makes a belching sound during the clip, was created by Framestone, the Oscar-winning creators of The Golden Compass.

Harrison, best-known for his roles in Indiana Jones and Star Wars, has campaigned for the environment for several years.

He said: “What happens in the rainforest has an immediate and powerful effect on our lives. I believe it is our moral responsibility to protect the environment, to save what we can of the planet’s resources for future generations and our children.”

James Bond star Daniel added: “I was prepared to support such an important issue.”

Singer Joss said she “didn’t have to think twice” about featuring in the video.

And Robin commented: “There are so many things in the rainforest that must be preserved – I believe it is an exquisite part of the world. It needs us and, much more importantly, we need it. Please help.”

Mick Jagger And Joss Stone ‘Collaborate On UN Album’

May 5th, 2009

Mick Jagger and Joss Stone are getting together in the studio to record a second collaboration.

The two singers will perform a new song with Nas, A.R. Rahman (who composed the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack), as well as Damian and Stephen Marley, reports The Sun.

The track will feature on a forthcoming album to mark the UN International Day Of Peace on September 21.

Jagger and Stone have teamed-up before, when in 2004 they recorded ‘Lonely Without You’ for Alfie movie.

An insider tells the publication: “Joss and Mick hit it off when they worked with producer Dave Stewart on the Alfie soundtrack, so were keen to collaborate again.”

“When this project was suggested they were keen to get on board, especially considering the glittering cast of other musicians involved.”

Joss should be releasing her new solo album ‘Colour Me Free’, but the record has been delayed several times already.
