Soul singer JOSS STONE has spoken out in support of Hollywood actor TOM CRUISE, vowing to stand up for the star to defend his reputation. Cruise’s public persona has been damaged in recent years by a media baffled by his devotion to the Church of Scientology – but Stone, 20, insists the Top Gun star is widely misunderstood. She says, “Tom called me and said that he loved my music, would I like to come over and meet the family? “I do not understand why people are so mean about him. He’s lovely, he didn’t strike me as weird in any way. I will stand up for that man against any of his critics.”

Joss Stone has offered some baffling health advice at a benefit for the US National Heart, Lung And Blood Institute.

When asked for a health tip, a journalist from New York’s Daily News the soul star said, “In England we smoked rolled cigarettes. It’s better to smoke rollies than straights because straights have chemicals that keep them burning. So if you have to really smoke, smoke rollies.” Now, we’re no experts but we’d imagine this isn’t the message the Heart, Lung And Blood Institute were looking to send out.

For 40 years, the Flake girl has nibbled seductively on the same brand of chocolate, with no apparent ill-effects on either her figure or her complexion.

Now the enduring advertising icon is undergoing its latest regeneration, with soul diva Joss Stone becoming the face – and the voice – of Britain’s “crumbliest, flakiest” chocolate.

However, the new TV commercial will be decidedly less suggestive than previous ones, to the relief of the 20-year-old’s concerned mum, Wendy.

In the adverts, Miss Stone, the first celebrity ever to advertise Flake, is seen working on a new song in the BBC’s Maida Vale recording studios.

During a break, she spies the chocolate bar and nibbles it, prompting her to sing the famous jingle: “Only the crumbliest, flakiest chocolate tastes like chocolate never tasted before.”

Miss Stone says her version, which airs in March, will not be racy. “It’s OK to be sexual, but I just don’t want to do that,” she said.

“My mum came with me to meet the guys at Cadbury. She was like, ‘It’s not going to be, you know, the sex thing that they do.’ I was like, ‘Mum, oh my God, sharrup!’

“They said no, it’s a whole new take on it. It’s just normal and chill with me wearing normal clothes.

“Many women in the public eye want to [promote] things like slimming pills and how to have bigger breasts. But I thought, maybe I could promote chocolate, ‘cos it tastes good. People need to stop worrying about being skinny and things like that.”

British singer JOSS STONE has stopped dying her hair after it started falling out. The 20-year-old has become famous in recent years for her ever-changing colourful locks. But she has opted to return to her blonde roots, fearing she’ll lose her hair for good if she keeps dying it. Stone says, “I did all the colours, and I kind of ran out. My hair’s starting to disintegrate, so I decided that I’ll give it a little rest.”
